New Toy!

Check out these cool sports (sweat proof) headphones! Just when I had given up on finding water proof headphones, my office had the "one day only" 10% discount off Sennheiser stuff. Praise God! There were a couple of designs, but after trying them on, I decided on these (OMX 70) as they feel the most comfortable and secure (you should have seen me shamelessly running and jumping in the showroom just to make sure they won't pop out). :D I am hoping to bring it for a run today before I post a more detailed review.

The haze has receded somewhat over the last two days. Praise God! The weatherman calls it a freak, but I am calling it God's grace and praying that the clear skies will hold. As you can see, my bike has been sulking in the living room and if I don't take it for a ride this weekend, our relationship could be somewhat strained...

On the Intentional Discipleship side, I was reading Acts 18:24-28, when it occured to that I could very well be like Apollos - someone who seems to know the Scripture, but yet does not know the Holy Spirit. Acts 18:25 describes him this way: "He had been taught the way of the Lord, and he taught others about Jesus with an enthusiastic spirit and with accuracy. However, he knew only about John’s baptism." (New Living Translation). John's baptism was a baptism of repentance from sin, but Jesus' baptism is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, where life is found in faith in Jesus Christ. While I have encountered the Holy Spirit before, and I do feel His presence (sometimes) when I worship, I have not spoken in tongues, and sometimes I wonder if I have actually already received the baptism of the Holy Spirit... I know that some people teach that speaking in tongues may not be an indication of having been baptised in the Holy Spirit, but why do I still try so hard to do things my way, instead of being led by the Spirit (Romans 8:5-8)? And is this why my ministry feels so "stop and go" and not fully "empowered"? Sorry if I have lost the pre-believers reading this, but this is a bit of a tough one for me to get over right now, and I just gotta be the dreamer that I am... ;)

Until next time, train safe one and all, and may God Speed your endeavors!

Nice head phones.

How about an indoor trainer for the bike?

And thanks for another dose of "intentional discipleship." I could certainly use it.

Kewl, you might do some reading about gifts of the spirit. Every time gifts are mentioned, we learn that "some" have each gift.

I would be quite shocked to meet someone who had ALL the gifts of the spirit. Mine happens to be teaching and preaching (pronounced TALKING). God gave me the ability to talk about anything, anywhere, to anyone. I put that to use in Sunday School and giving sermons in the pastor's absence.

I am seriously lacking in other gifts. I struggle with prayer and don't even consider speaking in tongues. And the list only goes on from there.

Look at the gifts God DID give you. You can always pray about receiving other blessings, but should continue to work with what you already have.

And always remember that we are all in the same boat. Each of us struggles when Christ asks us to step out of the boat and join him on the water.

I like those headphones. I am always looking for ones that will stay on my ears. I'll have to look for those.

Nice job on your naked run in Tokyo. Funny stuff. I thought those headphones were a funky looking stethoscope when I first saw the photo.

I believe that once we have accepted Christ, we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit. Remember that our Big God still works in subtle ways...just because you haven't experiences prolific things such as speaking in tongues, that does not make you inadequate. The Holy Spirit lives in us, it is the quiet voice that leads us when we pray, when we help someone in need, when we cry with compassion. It isn't always a loud banging noise, most of the time I have found that God would rather whisper just to make sure we are actually listening in those quiet moments.

God bless!

What I think actually happened when the disciples spoke in tongues on receiving the Holy Spirit, was that they spoke in their own native tongue (which was probably Aramaic) and everyone listening, no matter what language they spoke, heard it in THEIR own tongue. This is not nearly the same thing as what people now describe as "speaking in tongues." And Paul said that speaking in tongues is meaningless unless there's someone there to interpret. I wonder if truly speaking in tongues was a one-time miracle, like turning the water into wine (at least, as far as is recorded, He only did that one once...)

Those headphones look awesome. I have not been out in the rain much with my ipod, but I do get quite sweaty at times and was worrying about my headphones. I might have to give those a shot.

I enjoy hearing you struggle with your faith and being a disciple as well. You seem to be much further along in your journey than most and the simple fact that you are thinking out loud to all those willing to read is a testament to your commitment to Christ.

When we recieved the Baptism of the Holy Spirit I spoke in other tougues but my husband didn't at the time. It changed both of our lives though and that's the main thing.
I've been looking for "over the ear headphones" and those look like they would do the trick!
